Pool Cleaner Parts
If it is PVC pipe as the pool cleaner parts then you can get a piece of the same size pipe and cut out a piece that would cover the hole by two or three inches all around. The patch will be curved the same as the pipe. Then using PVC primer and glue on both patch and pipe place the patch over the hole and hold it there for about ten seconds. You can not have any water in the pipe at the time, at least not under pressure. If the patch is the correct size it will work, if it is too big it will not make good contact and will not work.

Pool cleaners
I have a Polaris and it works great. It sounds like you have an old system or a bad installation. I have a large pool and usually run my filters 2 hours a day. If you are looking at replacing a system I would look at the variable speed pumps, they are said to save energy by being able to run at a lower speed for part of the filtering process. You can check the energy usage by looking at the amps and watts for the motors, that will tell you how much energy they use will pumping.
