Hayward DE pool filter with suspicious leak
We have a Hayward DE filter that is about 10 years old. Last week, I had a pool company come and do a one time clean. We’ve employed this company occasionally in the past without any problems. Today, I noticed our timer was messed up because the pool shut down and then came back on some time later. I went around the back of the house to adjust the timer and discovered water shooting from a very obvious horizontal line about 3.5″ across the top part of the filter. This line was not near any seam and did not appear to be a crack; it was too straight. We’ve also had fencing contractors in our back yard lately, and they removed the old fencing surrounding the equipment.
I’m wondering:
1. Is there any chance this is normal wear and tear, or did someone bust up my filter?
2. What will it cost to replace the top part of the filter? Can you even buy just that top hood? Or do you have to buy the whole thing?
What is wrong with my Hayward EC40 D.E. Pool Filter?
What is wrong with my Hayward EC40 D.E. Pool Filter? My Hayward EC40 D.E. Pool Filter keeps stopping. I have cleaned it and back washed it. If I bump it, it comes on strong for about 2 minutes, then starts to slow down again, and in about 10 minutes, no water flow at all. I have followed directions, and used new D.E.

Problems with suction from pool filter

- Image via Wikipedia
Problems with suction from pool filter? We are assuming its a suction from the filter problem, but don’t really know for sure! A quick back story on our problem: we noticed that our hayward pool cleaner was running very lethargically. We used the piece that came with it to check the suction pressure and it was very low.
Hayward pool filter is running at very low pressure
My Hayward pool filter is running at very low pressure and there is some air in the stainer basket. Ideas? I have backwashed and added new DE, cleaned the strainer gasket and tightened it down.
The pump and filter are working but the pressure is less then 5 and there is a good sized pocket of air in the strainer. I have tried alternating between skimmer and floor drain.
How often do you change the sand in a Hayward pool filter

- Image by Erik K Veland via Flickr
I have a 9 year old Hayward sand pool filter that seems to be having trouble catching all the dirt from the bottom of my pool. When I use my automatic pool cleaner it seems to only run a short time before it just quits. I’m guessing it’s time for a sand change? I did change the sand a few years back…
